Wuhan is the capital of Hubei province and is the most populous city in central China. Lying on the Yangtze River, Wuhan it is in fact the combination of three separate cities lying on both sides of the River. The combination of these three cities names: Wuchang, Hankou, and Hanyang, gives us the modern name “Wuhan” that we know today. Wuhan is not only the capital and commercial center of Hubei province, it is also known as the "thoroughfare of nine provinces", being a major transportation hub for the surrounding provinces, linked to the rest of China by dozens of railways, roads and expressways passing through the city.

Key industry sectors include: optic-electronic information, automobile manufacture, steel manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, biology engineering, new materials industry, and environmental protection.
