China Law Digest - July 2, 2008

Dear Readers,

With the Olympic games less than forty days away, the preparations we have seen so far this year in Beijing are rising to a fever pitch. On Tuesday, the first of 500,000 Olympic volunteers have hit the streets, manning tourist information booths to help visitors to the city. The subway system finally has modern ticketing devices common in Shanghai and Hong Kong; there are now also security checks in all 93 stations. Taxis, long the focus of scrutiny by the authorities, have noticeably improved, in terms of cleanliness and service quality. 10,000 artists from all over the world have gathered in the capital for one of the largest arts festivals in the history of Beijing.

This week's China Law Digest presents an article on ambush marketing in relation to the Olympic games, a topic that many readers have asked about, including a discussion on some of the measures the Beijing Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games (BOCOG) has taken to prevent ambush marketing. We'd also like to share with you some news about Olympic-related changes in the city with you, to get a taste of what it is like to be in one of the most exciting places on earth, for those of you who won't be joining us during the games.

As many of you come to Beijing in advance of the Olympic games, I hope that you will stop by Lehman, Lee & Xu’s head office for a visit. Our door is welcome to you at any time. If you have any questions or would like to visit, please contact me at elehman@lehmanlaw.com

Best regards,
