What are the laws for inspecting import and export commodities in China?

Chinese laws impose rather a wide range of stringent commodity inspection requirements. Laws and regulations in this area are both complex and cumbersome, sometimes creating non-tariff barriers to trade. The principal laws relating to commodity inspection are the Law of the People's Republic of China on Import and Export Commodity Inspection (the "Commodity Inspection Law") and the Rules of the Implementation of the Law of the People's Republic of China on Import and Export Commodity Inspection (the "Implementation Rules").

In addition to the above two major laws, there are a range of other regulations and measures issued by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine and other state departments to deal with specific issues relating to inspection.
