13. How does the new TMO deal with the registration period?

A trademark shall be registered for a period of 10 years beginning on the date of its registration, the deemed date of registration being the actual filing date. Renewal is for further periods of 10 years. This compares with the 7 year initial registration period and 14 year renewal periods under the old law.
