China Anti-Bribery Update for January 2014

Q1: Are there any new rules regarding anti-bribery in this January?

A: Yes, the Regulation on Selection and Appointment of the Party and Government Leaders was issued and took effect on January 16th 2014 by the Communist Party of China, according to the new regulation, the principles and procedures for selecting, promoting and appointing the officials will be a little different as before, the moral integrity will be paid more attention for the candidate.

 

Q2:What were the government action situation took by the government to anti-bribery in this January?

A: In January 3 former high officials were sentenced to death with two years reprieve and other 3 were sentenced in prison for 14 years, 22years, and for life respectively for accepted and solicited bribes. The amount of corruption of this six corrupt officials are reach up to around RMB 190 million. This six former officials are as follow:

a.       Ma Junfei, the former Deputy Head of the Hohhot Railway Bureau in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region;

b.      Hou Fucai, the former Chief of Construction Management Division of Housing and Urban-Rural Construction Bureau of Weinan City, Shanxi Province;

c.       Zhou Jianhua, the former Chief of the Standing Committee of the National People’ s Congress of Xinyu City, Jiangxi Province;

d.      Li Xuezhi, the former chief of the Ministry of Environmental Protection North China Supervision Center;

e.       Liu Shenghai, the former Deputy Head of Local Tax Bureau of Dingxi City, Gansu Province;

f.       Liu Jiakun , the former Deputy Chief of the Standing Committee of NPC and Secretary of CPC Committee of Taihe County, Anhui Province;

 

 

Q3: What’s the anti-bribery situation during 2013? 

A:  According to the report issued by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the CPC and Ministry of Supervision, during the past year 1,950,374 petition reports relating to anti-corruption were accepted by the discipline inspection and supervision agencies across the country, 182,038 people were disciplined including 31 central management cadres.
