New Labor Contract Law for China

Beijing, China – June 29, 2007

The Chinese government has promulgated a new law relating to employment, or as it is called in China, the "labor contract" law.

Among other provisions, the new law seeks to impose greater penalties against employers who fail to sign contracts with their employees. It adds to the rules governing an employer's unilateral termination of a contract. It also seeks to encourage greater use of collective contracts.

The new law will be effective January 1, 2008.
