Supreme People's Court Published Anticipated Reforms to Capital Punishment Regulations

Beijing, China - February 27, 2007

The Supreme People’s Court published new regulations governing the review of capital punishment decisions in China. All death penalty cases must now be reviewed by the Supreme People’s Court. This new review process provides for additional review after judgment by the provincial people’s court, and is viewed by LEHMAN LEE & XU as a necessary and beneficial change.

Earlier this year in the lead up to these anticipated reforms, Mr. Edward Lehman, managing director of LEHMAN LEE & XU, appeared on CCTV 9’s Dialogue to discuss these incoming changes. The press release is available on line at the following address:

Given the firm’s interest in China’s opening up to the rest of the world, LEHMAN LEE & XU gives praise to the Government of the People’s Republic of China for their efforts in publishing the new regulations.
