Beijing, China - April 3, 2007

Lehman, Lee & Xu released its English translation of the newly issued Enterprise Income Tax Law of the People's Republic of China, promulgated on March 16, 2007 during the annual meeting of the National People's Congress in Beijing. 

The Enterprise Income Tax Law (effective January 1, 2008) which was hotly debated due to its potential threat to slow foreign investment, and seek to level the playing field for all companies in China by unifying the application scope, tax rates, tax deductions/exemptions, and preferential tax policies for both foreign-invested enterprises (FIEs) and domestic enterprises. The tax reform is also designed to boost China’s economic structure and upgrade the country’s industry.
